Digital Dentistry
Crowns are a structural, cosmetic restoration performed to strengthen or improve the shape of a tooth. Crowns are most often used for teeth that are broken, worn, or partially destroyed by tooth decay. Crowns are cemented or bonded onto an existing tooth, and fully cover the portion of your tooth above the gum line. In effect, the crown becomes your tooth's new outer surface. Crowns or onlays (partial crowns) are needed when there is insufficient tooth strength remaining to hold a filling. Unlike fillings, which apply the restorative material directly into your mouth, a crown is fabricated away from your mouth. We will create a unique tooth impression or capture a 3D digital image of your mouth, which allows our team or a trusted dental laboratory technician to examine all aspects of your bite and jaw movements. Your crown is then sculpted just for you so your bite and jaw movements can function normally.
As plaque accumulates and hardens, it may develop into a cavity. Cavities are treated by removing the tooth decay and adding in composite fillings to reinforce the tooth’s structure. Our office uses porcelain, ceramic, and metal fillings, however, for cosmetic purposes, most patients elect for porcelain or ceramic, as it mimics the color of a natural tooth. Our recommendation will always be to follow the direction of the doctor, and he will walk you through your best treatment options.
Our office now offers CBCT Cone Beam scanning technology! With the Cone Beam machine, we are able to take 3D images of your mouth, and capture all necessary angles of your teeth and bone structure to provide the most comprehensive care. This technology not only gives a 360° view of your mouth, it also captures the gum tissue and nerves, so we are able to identify any fractures or infections that would not be visible by other means.
